The BIG Change

We continued driving to the Dole plantation. It was a real tourist attraction, like much of Hawaii. We took a little train ride around the property. It was ok, but not that informative, certainly not worth what we payed for it. We spent some time looking around the gift shop, buying souvenirs for us and family. We also bought a pineapple that we took back to the cabin. It was the best pineapple I’ve ever had in my life. While we were there, we got this desert thing that was pineapple ice cream and chunks of pineapple, and other kinds of goodness. It was tasty.

We began our drive back towards our cabin. Along the way we stopped at Haleiwa by Waialua bay. This is the famous North Shore of Hawaii. My brother and his wife had been to Hawaii earlier and told us there was a Patagonia store there. So we dove by and went in. Never been in a Patagonia store myself, but it seemed like a small shop with, as you would expect for Patagonia, over priced stuff.

From there we continued on back towards the cabin. We had seen several beaches along the way earlier while we were driving. We brought our swimsuits with us on the drive and decided to stop at Sunset Beach. It wasn’t a busy beach like we had envisioned beaches in Hawaii to be. I’m sure Waikiki Beach is a different story. Seeing as how it was called sunset beach. We decided to sit and wait for sunset. It was a pretty view.

While we were waiting for the sun to set, I looked behind me and saw this cool picture of the moon rising above the palm trees.

After watching the sunset, we headed back to our cabin, got cleaned up, and headed out for supper. This side of the island was not as touristy as I had expected. For that I was greatful, but that also mean it was more difficult to find places to eat. We drove past this one place called the Crouching Lion Inn. It looked like it had a restaurant in it, so we tried it out. When we walked in, it seemed deserted. It was late in the evening, after 8PM, so I guess either most of their business had left, or maybe it was just because we weren’t there during peak season. Either way, we had difficulty finding someone to seat us. When someone did show up, they seated us outside (why would you eat inside in Hawaii?). There were two great big wicker chairs they put us in. There was only one other couple that was there. The food was really good. I’m not normally one for seafood, but if you are in Hawaii, you got to eat the local stuff. I also had my first pina colada, no alcohol of course. It was really tasty. I also tried some coconut battered shrimp. Wow, add coconut to something ,and it is really good!
