The next day, we did more driving around. We took our swim suits with us and went for a drive. The road around Kauai doesn’t go all the way around it. It stops because of the Parks and Reserves on the NW side of the island. So we took the road as far as we could and got to the Haena State Park. The road just stops in a parking lot. There were lots of hiking trails you can take from there. This is where the trail starts for those who wish to hike the Na Pali Coast trail. It’s a fairly long hike. Wendy says she wants to go back there to hike it. I told her I’d pick her up in a motor boat at the end to bring her back. I just don’t care to hike in mosquito infested hot and humid weather.
We turned around and started heading back. There were lots of little towns along the way. There were also one lane bridges that you have to negotiate. People know to wait for so many cars to go by at a time and then the other direction goes. We stopped at Tunnels Beach near Haena Park. Its called Tunnels Beach because there is a big cave across from the parking area for the beach.
The cave probably went about 50 yards back in. The beach was also pretty.
We stopped in Hanalei for lunch at a little local pizza shop. After eating all this healthy fish and stuff, I was ready for something good. The pizza was tasty. Afterward we went to get more shave ice. According to the guidebook, the best shave ice is a place called Wishing Well Shave Ice. It’s nothing more than just a truck that they serve out of with some tables out front. I’m not quite sure why people think its so great, our experience wasn’t so hot. There was an episode on Seinfeld called “The Soup Nazi”. It was funny because our experience with this lady was very similar to the Soup Nazi.
